Post-tensioning has been one of the most significant developments in the 20th Century. It has contributed greatly to the economical construction of bridges, through the use of innovative construction methods such as cantilever construction, incremental launching and in particular through precast segmental construction methods in bridges. In buildings, prestressed precast and in-situ post-tensioning are the preferred construction method in many countries for many types of building structures such as offices, shopping centres, convention centres, warehouses, car parks, hotels and resorts. Recent developments in national codes, construction material and emphasis on sustainable construction, have led to a significant departure in the way we design and construct prestressed concrete structures. In this paper, a state of the art prestressed concrete design and construction of buildings, bridges and special structures will be examined.
Keywords: State of the art, prestressed, concrete, design, construction, bridges, buildings.
