About the lecture:
Most civil engineering graduates who have passed the board examination and most practicing
civil engineers are generally employed either locally or abroad. This is because the general
training and orientation of Filipino engineers is that they must finish and earn their civil
engineering degree to find a good paying job. This paper intends to provide an alternative
perspective for the civil engineers to consider a complete paradigm shift to entrepreneurship
while at the same practicing their chosen field of profession and specialization.

At the end of the presentation, the participants are expected to be able to:
  • Understand the forms of business entity
  • Know the government agencies where to register a business
  • Know the procedures of registration with the BIR, understand bookkeeping requirements and tax activities such as tax mapping and tax forms
  • Know the ins and outs of business permitting and licensing
  • Know the information on the minimum basic consultancy fees

About the lecturer:

Adam C. Abinales, M.ENG., F.ASEP, PICE, runs his own consulting firm as Managing Principal of Adam Abinales Engineering & Consultancy. He is an accredited civil-structural engineer/consultant of Smart Communications, Inc. (SMART), Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), Digitel Mobile Philippines, Inc. (SUN CELLULAR), Bayan Telecommunications (BAYANTEL), Bell Telecommunications (BELLTEL), Ericsson Communications, Inc. (ERICSSON), ABC Development Corporation (TV5), GMA Network(GMA7), Manila Water Company, Inc. (MWCI), Phinma Property Holdings Corporation (PPHC) and other various local construction companies like First Balfour, Inc., , Thaison Builders, etc. He is presently a member of the PICE National Board. He served as President of the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines in 2009-2010. He graduated from the Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT) with the degrees of BSCE and BSEnSE in 1980 and 1984, respectively. He finished his Master of Engineering, Major in Civil Engineering (Structural) at Adamson University in May 2011. He worked as faculty member / associate professor in the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental & Sanitary Engineering at the MIT from 1981 to 1987, 2007 to 2009 and taught structural engineering design subjects.
